Why is Pastured Poultry So Great for Obesity and Cancer?

TFRM EMAIL HEADER

Hi everyone,

Did you know that when chickens are allowed to pasture outdoors, their meat and eggs become high in Omega-3 fatty acids? When the hens are pastured, they produce eggs that can contain as much as 10 times more Omega-3s than eggs katharos eggsfrom factory hensthat are housed indoors and deprived of greens.

The CLA Bonus. Meat and dairy products from grass-fed animals are the richest known source of another type of good fat called “conjugated linoleic acid” or CLA. Chickens raised on fresh pasture alone will have meat that contains from three to five times more CLA than products from animals fed conventional diets.2

CLA may be one of our most potent defenses against cancer. In laboratory animals, a very small percentage of CLA—a mere 0.1 percent of total calories—greatly reduced tumor growth. There is new evidence that CLA may also reduce cancer risk in humans.

Meat from grass fed animals also has about half the fat that grain fed animals have and it contains fewer calories. And as a bonus it gives you a supply of vitamins E, A, D, and beta-carotene.

Switching from grain fed to grass fed meat has also been shown to be a healthy, natural way to lose weight.

With all that in mind, wouldn’t you LOVE to get your poultry and eggs from a farm that raises their chickens on bugs and fresh pasture?

Katharos is that farm. They offer you PREMIUM grass fed poultry, filled with Omega-3s and CLA.
katharos chicken Katharos delivers this absolutely premium organic pastured poultry to several delivery points around Middle TN.

This farm is uniquely different. They are completely stewardship-focused and have one simple vision – to deliver Pure Polyculture Food for YOU, the customer.

Their poultry is unmatched as a healthy and nutritious food source. Their chickens bathe continuously in sunlight, soaking up lots of vitamin D into their tissues. They also exercise and are moved daily to fresh sections of pastures full of truly delectable grasses, bugs and worms.

Even better, the chickens are only supplemented with organic or better-than-organic feed. Even though the folks at Katharos have to travel 1.5 hours one-way to pick up this feed, to the folks at Katharos there is no other viable alternative that comes anywhere near this quality.

They believe the story behind what we eat should be both discoverable and meaningful, not shrouded in mystery. Transparency, even in pricing, is essential and they welcome the conversation.

Katharos delivers into the greater Nashville area, Columbia, Franklin, Brentwood, and more and they accept all forms of payment. If you would like to pickup, right now they offer two convenient locations:

Interestingly, when the pasture was machine-harvested and then fed to the animals as hay, the cows produced far less CLA than when they were grazing on that pasture, even though the hay was made from the very same grass. The fat that the animals use to produce CLA is oxidized during the wilting, drying process. For maximum CLA, animals need to be grazing living pasture.
