Katharos Farm

Katharos-Pastured Broilers

Katharos Farm LLC is a family-owned, pasture-based, beyond organic local farm just outside Nashville, TN. We are very stewardship-focused and have one simple vision – to deliver Pure Polyculture Food for YOU, our customer.

Starting with the name “Katharos” that in the Greek has meant purity for thousands of years, we have set out to establish a standard in farming that is about stewardship of the soil, plants, animals – as well as the community in which we live. Going beyond organic is the beginning. Pasture-raised (not just grass-raised) is our standard, and letting the “animalness” of the animal be expressed is our mission.Katharos-Pure Polyculture Food Difference

The Parker and Horwath families are dedicated to delivering YOU the purest and highest quality food available in the state of Tennessee for years to come. We avoid chemicals like the plague and to us this isn’t a trivial matter. From only using organic or better feed (versus cheaper Non-GMO feed that contains pesticides, herbicides, etc.) to how we sanitize equipment, to the stewardship of both land and animals – these things are our passion and THAT makes a world of difference.

Our values, commitment, and principles are founded in the belief that this magnificent and amazing earth, with all of it’s interdependent systems, was carefully and perfectly designed. Stewardship, purity, and transparency are our values and reflect what is truly important to our families.

Collectively these values:

  • establish an unchanging guideline for business decisions
  • provide customers with an expectation that is quantifiable, and
  • anchor our inherently curious, learning, and innovative culture

The Pure Polyculture Food difference requires our paradigm to be different and encompass everything involved with farming, not JUST avoiding a list of chemicals.

We have dedicated this year to broilers and we have a nice inventory. Unfortunately, our egg inventory is currently sold out and we have a limited supply of pigs for the fall. But we do plan to significantly increase both our layer and pig supply for next year. We’ve also recently started our cattle and sheep herds and expect availability in 2 to 3 years.

Pastured Broilers:

Sadly, the chicken has fallen victim to man-made interventions and confusing marketing for decades. Commercial “organically-raised” chickens only have to have “access” to the outdoors and they can be given synthetics, pro/prebiotics, etc. Non-GMO feed can be raised with pesticides, herbicides (including Round-Up), etc.

Certified non-GMO animals can be given growth-promoting antibiotics, soaked in chlorine solution baths, etc. Cage-free doesn’t mean anything as all birds in the commercial system haven’t been caged for decades.

We choose a different path that allows these chickens to be a chicken. Katharos-Moving Pastured BroilersOnce our broilers exit the brooder, they bathe continuously in sunlight. They also exercise and are moved daily to fresh sections of pastures full of truly delectable grasses, bugs and worms. They are only supplemented with organic or better-than-organic feed. Even though we must travel 1.5 hours one-way to pick up this feed, there is no other viable alternative if we are to remain true to our name and values.

Here are some of our prices:

  • Whole Bird – $4.8/lb (Processed weight is typically between 4 and 6lbs, no sales tax)
  • Bulk Purchases – Buy 5 or more at $4.5/lb
  • Slightly Damaged Whole Bird, when available – $4.25/lb (During processing the skin can be slightly torn on the breast, leg, or thigh or the leg or wing can be broken)

We can deliver to the greater Nashville area and accept all forms of payment. If you would like to pickup, we have two convenient locations:

  • South Franklin, just a minute from 840 and I-65
  • Spring Hill near the intersection of Duplex and Buckner
